Last December, with over 150 in attendance, NBEF held its annual Prep for Success Holiday Gathering at the Pines Manor in Edison, NJ for New Brunswick High School and New Brunswick Health Sciences Technology High School seniors and alumni (enrolled in colleges, universities, and vocational institutes; and young professionals). This conference style event, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick Tomorrow, and the New Jersey Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development, was designed to inspire and equip New Brunswick youth and young adults in their educational, career, and life pursuits.
The evening began with hors’ devours and networking. This was followed by Gian Paul Gonzalez, Founder and Director of Hope + Future Foundation, who delivered a powerful motivational speech that inspired young people from New Brunswick to be “all in” and fully committed when you make decisions to better your lives.
After a scrumptious buffet spread, the energy of the event then shifted to a dynamic workshop facilitated by Jessica Varela, a NBEF Project Manager, and Aileen Merino, NBEF Program Specialist, entitled “Being TRUE to YOU in the Workplace.” The training included some thought-provoking discussion on the effects of imposter syndrome and microaggressions. It then entailed a fashion show that displayed and emphasized what not to wear on the job!!! This fun-filled production featured members of the NBEF Network as models, along with lots of feedback from the audience. It was a blast!!!
The NBEF Holiday Gathering ended with special raffle drawing with great prizes and scholarships for college, grad school or professional development.
