For a second consecutive year, in light of COVID-19, NBEF modified its programming from presenting scholarships at an in-person (“brick and mortar”) gala to a live stream virtual awards ceremony that was broadcast on July 29, 2021. During this special virtual event, NBEF presented 94 scholarships to New Brunswick High School and New Brunswick Health Sciences Technology High School graduates that the organization is administering, totaling $108,000.00.
The aim of the video (posted on YouTube with hundreds of viewers to date) was to create a platform for NBEF to publicly congratulate the scholarship recipients and welcome them into the NBEF Family (especially during these continuous uncharted times caused by the pandemic). The virtual awards production’s keynote speaker was Aileen Merino, a 2016 New Brunswick High School alumna who acquired a Bachelor’s degree from Rider University in Political Science.
Aileen is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Saint Peter’s University and is a Constituent Representative on the staff of United States Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman of New Jersey. In addition, she serves as a College Readiness and Career Development Coach for NBEF.
Aileen delivered a dynamic message that was personable, relatable and inspirational. The feedback from the scholarship recipients, their families, school district officials, scholarship donors, corporate partners, and many others … has been tremendous!!!
Since 2007, with the generosity and support of numerous contributors, NBEF has awarded/administered a total of $714,700.00 in college scholarships exclusively to benefit New Brunswick youth.
