Since 2008, the New Brunswick Education Foundation (NBEF) has awarded a total of 152 grants to New Brunswick Public School teachers through its Innovative Teacher Grants Program. These grants equip teachers from various schools, grade levels, and curriculum areas in the District with resources to design and execute creative and cutting-edge educational projects and activities for their students.
NBEF receives numerous applications from teachers for grants each year and the selection process is very competitive, which entails the use of a comprehensive rubric and rating system. This year, with the generous co-sponsorships by the PNC Bank Foundation and MagyarBank Charitable Foundation, NBEF awarded funding for 11 dynamic projects, involving 14 teachers, which will impact over 1,500 students.
A special reception to congratulate the 2019-2020 Innovative Teacher Grants recipients was hosted by NBEF on February 26th, attended by District administrators, school principals, supervisors, sponsors, NBEF Board members and community friends. During the reception, the teachers provided brief presentations of their projects that served as a wonderful forum to share their ideas with their peers.
Some of the projects and activities include a field trip to the Liberty Science Center that will focus on how organisms are adapted to environments; a project with students creating positive and inspirational murals to elevate and inspire the school’s environment; also funding is being provided for a 10-day workshop series entitled “Girls in STEM: Empowerment and Leadership,” and a project built around the need to connect social emotional learning with elementary and middle school students working together to solve STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) related challenges.
NBEF takes pride in partnering with such gifted and dedicated educators of the New Brunswick Public School District; and commends them all for their innovation and commitment to excellence.
