On January 26, 2022, with over 200 in attendance, NBEF held its annual Prep for Success Virtual Platform for New Brunswick High School, New Brunswick Health Sciences Technology High School juniors, seniors and alumni (enrolled in colleges, universities, and vocational institutes; and young professionals). This online conference style event, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick Tomorrow, PNC Bank and the New Jersey Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development, was designed to inspire and equip New Brunswick youth and young adults in their educational, career, and life pursuits.
Dr. John Gaines kicked off the event with a powerful speech that encouraged the attendees to push through life’s obstacles and become the best versions of themselves as they pursue higher education and careers. His message of “starting every day with a positive thought” set the tone for the event’s workshop and panel discussions led by peer leaders of NBEF’s College & Young Professional Network.
The “GEARing UP for College: Tips for Success” session, directed at high school juniors applying to college, provided the opportunity for them to gain insight from an energetic, passionate, and relatable panel of young people from New Brunswick who are already enrolled in institutions of higher learning. Students engaged fully in learning about how to adapt to college both academically and socially.
The event also included a panel discussion for college students entitled, “Building Your Confidence, Profile, And Network to Land a Career.” It was led by accomplished young professionals and graduate school students sharing the lessons they’ve learned throughout their career journeys.
Additionally, a workshop was administered for high school seniors at the Virtual Platform entitled “Applying for Scholarships and Joining NBEF’s Network.” This session focused on programs, resources and services offered by NBEF that assists students with the college and career pursuits. All of the NBEF Virtual Platform’s panel discussions and workshop experiences were informative, interactive and fun.
This amazing evening ended with a raffle that provided attendees with a chance to win a college scholarship as well as great e-Gift cards (i.e., VISA, Stop & Shop, Amazon, Target, etc.). Without a doubt, NBEF’s Prep for Success Virtual Platform was a huge success!!!
