On November 9, 2023, NBEF hosted its 4th Mental Health Empowerment Event for our College & Young Professional Network. Since November 2021 (following the traumatic effects of COVID-19 on our city’s youth, young adults, and their families) NBEF has been committed to enhancing our College Readiness and Career Development components by engaging motivational messages facilitated by mental health advocates and empowerment speakers.
We partnered with Active Minds, Inc., a premier national organization that focuses on mental health awareness for young adults. Active Minds made it possible for NBEF to feature Abraham Sculley, a dynamic Active Minds Speaker who has been speaking around the country combating the stigma of mental health and empowering others to reach their highest potential in their physical, social and emotional well-being.
Abraham was relatable and shared personalized stories of his own bouts with depression and the steps he has taken to overcome and even champion his journey. He is a certified mental health first aid advocate with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of West Florida.
