Nearly 100 college students and young professionals, all New Brunswick High School (“NBHS”) and New Brunswick Health Sciences Technology High School (“NBHSTHS”) alumni and members of NBEF’s College & Young Professional Network, joined in NBEF’s Virtual Summer Event held on Thursday, August 12th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
The agenda included announcements of new and exciting NBEF programs (E-Mentoring, Public Speaking Institute, and Pathways to Law School); and the highlight of this special event was a motivational speech delivered by Dr. Alex Ellis entitled “You Got Next” (check out the video below). This inspiring message was followed by dynamic workshops that included insight and guidance for first year college students entitled “Anatomy of College Campuses” that covered resources and services available (in-person and virtual) on campuses in areas such as academic, social/emotional and career-related support; along with a thought-provoking conversation about “Campus Diversity.”
Another workshop themed the “Three Gems of Effective Job Searching,” was attended by college upperclassmen, graduate school students, and young professionals. It focused on “Dos and Don’ts of acquiring internships and full-time career opportunities, especially in the unchartered times of the pandemic. All of these workshop experiences were informative, interactive and fun!!!
This amazing evening ended with a raffle that provided attendees with a chance win college scholarships as well as great e-Gift cards (i.e. VISA, Stop & Shop, Amazon, Target, etc.). For a weeknight during the summer month of August with 96 youth and young adults participating … NBEF’s Virtual Event was a huge success!!!
