In special tribute to the late Preston and Maxine Gatling — the family  honor their memory through The Preston & Maxine Gatling Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000.00 award offered to an African American New Brunswick High School or New Brunswick Health Sciences Technology High School graduating senior who will attend a four-year college beginning in the Fall 2016. The scholarship will be presented to a deserving student who exhibits the values that Mr. and Mrs. Gatling bestowed on their family: commitment to excellence, a desire to learn, hard-work, community involvement, and a strong commitment to giving back to the community through philanthropic work.


Preston and Maxine Gatling were longtime residents of New Brunswick. Maxine Gatling graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1940. Preston Gatling completed his studies and training at Middlesex County Vocational School in New Brunswick.


The application for the Preston & Maxine Gatling Memorial Scholarship must be completed and submitted by Monday, May 2, 2016.


The recipient of the Preston & Maxine Gatling Memorial Scholarship will be recognized at the New Brunswick Education Foundation’s (NBEF) Tenth Anniversary Celebration on Friday, June 17, 2016 at The Pines Manor, 2085 Route 27 in Edison, NJ. The actual scholarship award, with a written designation for use, will be forwarded on behalf of the recipient directly to the college or university that he/she will attend.
