In special tribute, the family of the late Gertrude Elaine Harper has formed a scholarship in her memory to assist a deserving New Brunswick student with his/her pursuit for a college education. The Gertrude Elaine Harper Legacy Scholarship is offering a $1,000.00 award to a New Brunswick High School or New Brunswick Health Sciences Technology High School senior who: (1) will be attending a two or four year institution of higher learning in the fall 2016; and (2) exemplifies academic and career promise. The scholarship is also based on his/her financial need, school leadership, and community service.


The application and all documents for the Gertrude Elaine Harper Legacy Scholarship must be completed and submitted by Monday, May 2, 2016.


The recipient of the Gertrude Elaine Harper Legacy Scholarship will be recognized at the New Brunswick Education Foundation’s (NBEF) Tenth Anniversary Celebration on Friday, June 17, 2016 at The Pines Manor, 2085 Route 27 in Edison, NJ. The actual scholarship award, with a written designation for use, will be forwarded on behalf of the recipient directly to the college or university that he/she will attend.


The late Gertrude Elaine Harper affectionately known as “Elaine” was raised in New Brunswick and attended New Brunswick Public Schools. Elaine graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1966 and pursued business classes at Middlesex County College. Elaine was employed with Johnson & Johnson for 33 years holding various positions in Accounts Payable and Payroll Departments. She retired in 2009.


Elaine enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well has being a faithful member of Mt. Zion AME Church in New Brunswick.
